As we prepare for a fantastic summer of sport, with the countdown to the OVO Tour Series cycling event in May well underway and the excitement building towards the Great Aberdeen Run in August, it’s important to celebrate the collaborative work that is underpinning our ambitions as an active city.
The Council works hand in hand with event organisers for the cycling and the run, with community partners also joining forces – as the link with Aberdeen FC to create the red wave as part of the Great Aberdeen Run show.
Attracting these high profile events to the region is just part of the jigsaw – with the bigger picture one of significant investment in facilities and support for widening opportunities for all to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle. Recent participatory budgeting funding for the expansion of Active Schools projects in key areas of the city is another example of a holistic approach.
We’re proud to be a key partner of the Aberdeen Sports Village and there has been compelling research into the way this collaboration is bringing widespread advantages, captured in a newly released video by ASV. The links between the work of the Sports Village and the aims of the Local Outcome Improvement Plan are highlighted, an important demonstration of the community planning ethos in action.
Partnership working will continue to underpin the drive to make Aberdeen an active, healthy city where everyone has the opportunity to participate and embrace positive lifestyle choices.
