Our final blog of 2020 takes the form a simple Christmas thank-you message.
During this time of giving we wish to celebrate what has been a year of giving in response to COVID-19.
Our staff, partners and volunteers have worked tirelessly to keep the city going, safeguarding and supporting the vulnerable in the initial stages of the pandemic, then restoring some normality to life by reinstating public services.
Not everyone has come through 2020 unscathed – and our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and friends to this cruel disease, to those denied the comfort of human contact during difficult times.
But as a community we have gained something too, a wider appreciation perhaps of our dependence on one another, and an understanding of what teamwork can achieve.
A year ago we might never have imagined the restrictions now faced in daily life. But in summer we might never have believed that we’d have reclaimed so much lost ground – from safely re-opening our schools to re-activating the city centre to resuming our building programme.
So, please take a few moments to watch the video below that recognises our collective effort. The numbers are startling, the humanity more so. The road ahead isn’t straight or smooth but we are travelling together.
Have a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. You have never deserved it more.
